At least five people have been injured in an extra-alarm fire at a senior citizen high-rise on the West Side this morning, officials said.

The five were taken to the University of Illinois Medical Center, one in serious to critical condition, three in serious to fair condition and the other in fair to good condition, officials said.

The fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. at 1633 W. Madison St., apparently in bedding in an apartment on the 9th floor, officials said.

The fire was under control by 10:10 a.m., according to the Fire Department.
